Session FAQ’s

BOUDOIR SESSION – Frequently Asked Questions

Will my photos be on the internet?

Not unless you say it’s ok! Every image I share publicly is done so with permission, and always without your name. You can give me consent to share just a few of your fave images, all of your images, none of your images, or just a few anonymous ones that don’t show your face. It’s all up to you and your comfort level!

I have cellulite/stretch marks/acne. Can you get rid of that?

Removal of mild acne, acne scarring, stretch marks, and mild cellulite is part of the retouching process. If you have a severe case of any of these, I unfortunately may not be able to retouch it all out. If you’d like a personalized consultation to discuss it, just let me know.

Will you fix my problem areas when you edit?

I take a very natural approach to editing and always keep your images looking like ‘you’.  Most of my edits are for the technical aspects of a photo (exposure, crop, contrast, colouring, etc).  I do perform overall light skin edits as well as more detailed skin edits, only if necessary (as mentioned above).  My goal is always to utilize the most flattering light, angles and poses, so that post-processing is less necessary.  I am not the photographer that gives you plasticky perfect skin, big glittery eyes, nip and tucked curves or photoshops away 20lbs. I am committed to capturing who you are, in all your true beautifully perfect self!

I don’t look like the girls on your website, can I still book a session?

Of course! I feel bad that people even ask this question! Boudoir photography is for everyone!!! I have shot with every body type, size and age. Not everyone is comfortable with their photos being shared online, so I can’t show examples from all of my sessions.  What I can promise is that I will create images to flatter YOU.  I believe every woman is beautiful and it’s my job to show you just how gorgeous you are.

Will anyone else be with us while we’re shooting?

Nope! Just you and me! Once you’re done with hair/makeup, we go chat outfits and select your first look.  During that time, my hair/mu artist is packing up. As much as it’s super sad to have to say good bye to her, cause she’s such a blast, we won’t start shooting until it’s just you and I.

How do I prepare for my shoot?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! After your contract is signed and your session is secured with a retainer, I’ll send you a detailed set of emails covering all the session prep details – what to wear, grooming, feeling your best leading up to the shoot and lots more! I also send you a wee questionnaire so I can get to know you better and customize your shoot just for you.

Do I bring my own lingerie, or do you provide the outfits?

You need to bring your own lingerie to the photo shoot. I do have some shoes available, but lingerie is your responsibility. Select outfits that make you feel amazing and sexy and fierce! If you aren’t a lingerie person, trust me when I say, there is lingerie for everyone!! I’ve got tons of helpful tips and tricks to share with you before you go shopping, so don’t worry, I’ve got you girl!  If you’re really uncomfortable shopping and making wardrobe decisions alone, let me know!! I’m available to book for personalized shopping trips.

What about hair and makeup, do I do it myself?

Hair and makeup is included in every package I offer! Yes, you read that right!  My stylist has been hand-picked, not only for her incredible talent as an artist and years of experience, but also because she has the most welcoming, kind, easy to talk to and hilarious personality. An absolute beauty of a soul to be around!  Your boutique boudoir experience will have you feeling pampered, at ease and absolutely beautiful!!

Can I bring a friend to my shoot?

I feel that working one on one with my clients yields the best images. Having an audience often makes you more self conscious and nervous, so I prefer no friends or partners be present at the shoot.

I’m ready to book a shoot, what’s next? And do you offer payment plans?

Yay!! We’re going to have so much fun!! All you need to do now is shoot me an email – kia@kiaporter.com – and we can start talking dates and package options. Once we have a session day+time nailed down, I’ll send you the contract and request for retainer, to reserve your date.  The remaining balance of your chosen package is due no later than 48hrs before the day of your shoot. I know that sometimes these sessions are top secret, and perhaps payments need to be discreet or split up, so I offer payment via both online bank transfer and credit card. I also offer payment plans, just ask me for the deets.

I’m not sure what I want to order yet, can I decide when I see my photos?

Absolutely! After the shoot I welcome you back to the studio to view your images and discuss product options. Once you decide on what you’d like to order (album, canvas, prints, etc), 50% of the total is due at the photo reveal appointment. The remaining balance is due once the product is designed, approved by you and ready to be sent off to the lab.  No products are ordered until paid in full.

Can I skip the photo reveal appointment and just view my images online?

Oh my goodness, why would you want to? Well, maybe if you’re from out of town, so in that case, we can book a virtual photo reveal. But,  after such a fun and amazing experience, it would feel like a break up if we didn’t complete our journey together, lol! For realz though, the photo reveal appointment is like a super bonus that comes with your session. Us girls are so hard on ourselves, that simply sending you an online gallery where you are stuck, by yourself, staring at each image for however long, picking yourself apart, struggling to go through dozens and dozens of proofs…oh my goodness, I would never do that to you!!  This appointment is awesome because I guide you through the proofs, give you professional guidance, girlfriend guidance, answer any questions you may have, and you get to see and feel some of the products I offer, if you want to add any of them to your package.

If I am late will I still get my full shooting time?

I strongly encourage you to be on time, because I may not be able to accommodate you if you’re late. Scheduling is based on every client being on time that day, getting in to the hair/mu chair for their allotted time, and shooting for their chosen package/length of shooting time. If you’re late then it will cut into your shooting time, as I have to be ready for the next client at her scheduled time.

I can’t make my shoot date, can I reschedule?

Absolutely. Things come up and sometimes a date no longer works, so we’re happy to make the changes for you.  You can reschedule your shoot once without penalty with a minimum 14 days notice. However, the rescheduled appointment must be within 2 weeks of the original scheduled appointment.  If you contact us to reschedule less than 14 days before your shoot, you forget about your appointment, cancel your appointment, or you reschedule more than twice, your retainer is not transferable and is forfeited.  When you sign your contract, we block off those hours to shoot with you, thus turning away people interested in shooting that day.

What is your refund policy?

Due to the custom nature of photography, the session price and any products ordered are non-refundable. You have final say on the retouching and any custom album design and nothing goes to print without your approval.

Where do the shoots take place?

In North Vancouver, shoots are done (by appointment only) at my studio in the Lynnmour area – 1448B Crown St.  In other cities, I shoot in a hotel suite or private residence.  Exact location will be confirmed and sent to you prior to your shoot.

What else should I know?

Sessions are available to women aged 18 and over (you may be asked to provide ID). I currently do not provide couple sessions.
