Hello!!
Well, this is me. Pretty much always laughing and smiling…and probably wearing a scarf. I’m a titch nervous in these pics because I’m not used to being in front of the lens. Super fun though when you’re in front of a friend’s lens (thank you Robin !!) and so important for me to experience what you are all feeling!
I have had a camera in my hand since elementary school and have been obsessed with photography ever since. Ironically, with 3 super busy kids, I capture most of their lives with my iPhone…but it’s ok, because it’s about the moment, and when my phone is happy, it captures them beautifully. I am a super easy going, bubbly (maybe too much, can’t help it, it’s from my mom), go with the flow, let’s play hide & seek then build sand castles kinda photographer. I love what I do and get beyond excited at the thought of capturing your family’s moments in still frames, for forever. Priceless memories. Forever frozen. Eek!! Yup, a photo geek xo
So, one of my most favourite things about photographing a family is the time I get to spend getting to know them. We get to hang out, play, laugh, sometimes cry, lol … and I really feel like one of the gang by the end of the shoot. So, here’s a little bit about me and my family, so you can get to know me a bit better…
…my three children all have names that start with R. It wasn’t planned with the first two kids, but we figured the third would wonder why he didn’t get an R name, so, here we are. Bonus, it did make the last round of name picking a bit easier since we only had one letter to choose from, lol.
…on weekends, my husband makes me lattes in the morning, and I love that. It’s simple and kind and very special.
…I am a bit obsessed with photographing my family. Ironically, there are next to no photos of me WITH my family…
…I love tea. I make about 4 pots of it a day. Do I drink it all? Not really. And when I do get to enjoy a full cup, is it piping hot? (Ok moms, pretty sure you can answer this one)…never. The consistency of fresh hot cups of tea has plummeted drastically with the birth of each child. This makes me laugh though.
…I talk to my mom probably three times a day. She is amazing.
…totally fromage, but for my 10yr anniversary, we totally ripped it up. back lakeside where it all began, but this time, colour theme, paper lanterns, white twinkle lights, pinterest wood signs (don’t judge me), candy bar, handmade boutonnieres for the boys, matching lace dresses for my daughter and I…yup, totally cheesy, but SO awesome at the same time. No renewing of vows, but the most beautiful speech by a dear dear friend of ours…the best time xo
Now that you know a little bit more about me, check out more about my photography…
Kia Porter Photography is all about capturing life – the chaos, the fun and the everything in between. I have an 8 yr old, 6 yr old and 4 yr old…I know first hand that family life brings it all!
My style of photography is ‘lifestyle’ – candid, real, casual. I capture the moments that already exist in your family – the craziness, the love, the laughter – real life.
My shoots are always fun and relaxed – I want it to be a great experience for everyone. There’s no rush and no stress…and always time for snacks, play time, clothing changes, down time, whatever. It’s a fun shoot, and I always make sure it stays that way. We all know that when you have kids, things don’t ever go as planned – and to be honest, that’s real life, and that’s what I’m there to capture.
I specialize in Maternity, Newborn and Family Photography. Black+white is my personal favourite format (love love love it!). I find it wipes out all the distraction of colour and leaves you with nothing but raw emotion in your image. Yes, a little biased! But don’t worry, if you’re a fan of colour, I shoot that too. Ok, I have to admit…I do have a lot of love for colour images too. It’s just that b+w tugs a little harder on my heartstrings. Most of all, no matter the format, it’s the memory that the image has captured that is what’s most important.
I live and work on the North Shore and love it. Location shoots are awesome because the possibilities are endless here. Every shoot is different from the last. Always a new adventure with a great new family. I get to be one of the gang for the day. So cool.
I truly love what I do. I can’t tell you the joy and love in my heart when I look at my own family photos, which makes me so excited to do them for you. Beautiful, real…timeless.
Drop me a line anytime. I’d love to chat.
